Best Ways to Get to the Redskins Game

There’s nothing like singing “Hail to the Redskins” at FedEx Field to begin the Redskins’ season, but there’s no reason why getting to the game should raise your blood pressure.

For a sane commute, start early, pack your patience, buy parking passes online and plan to stay late while roads and highways around FedEx Field clear out. We have a few other helpful tips below.

Driving

Opposites attract and opposites might make you happier before kickoff. To beat gameday traffic, head south on the Beltway. Depending on where you access the roadway, it may cost you a few extra miles (especially if you live in Northern Virginia), but you are generally heading in the opposite direction compared to other traveling fans. Other alternate routes include taking George Washington Parkway to I-395 North and I-66 East to MD-202 towards Upper Marlboro. Don’t forget to head in the opposite direction on the Beltway (north instead of south) after the game, too.

Here’s what you should enter if you plan to use a directions app: FedEx Field, 1660 FedEx Way, Landover, Md.

Parking

Parking at FedEx Field

The FedEx Field parking management uses a system of permits and designated access roads to ensure fans can get to their designated lot. All permits are valid for one parking space and are designated to a specific color and letter lot. Each lot has a designated roadway that you must use to access the lot. If you enter on the wrong road, you will be turned around and asked to enter on the correct roadway. Permits must be displayed at all times. Failure to comply with parking rules may result in towing at owner’s expense.

Parking Lots at Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center Metro Lots

For any non-riders, there is a $15 special event parking eee at both Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center during events at FedEx Field. Metrorail riders who use the same SmarTrip(R) card to ride to Morgan Boulevard or Largo Town Center and exit the parking facility will be charged the standard parking rates in effect upon exiting. A qualifying Metro ride is one that begins at a station other than Largo Town Center, Morgan Boulevard, Addison Road, Capitol Heights or Benning Road. For example, a rider traveling from Stadium-Armory to Morgan Boulevard has taken a qualifying trip and would pay regular parking rates ($5.10 on weekdays, free on weekends); however, a rider who boards at Largo Town Center and exits at Morgan Boulevard would be subject to the $15 special event parking fee during stadium events.

The $15 rate is in effect at the time of kickoff and remains in effect until two hours after the event.

Ridesharing

Uber

In 2016, Uber teamed with the Redskins to establish a dedicated lot for the ridesharing service. You just need to pay a $2 special event fee for each trip taken from the FedEx Field area. If you’re new to Uber, you can get your first ride free with the promo code HTTR2017.

Here’s a map to the Uber lot at FedEx Field.

For drop-offs, enter your destination address as Prince George’s County Sports Complex, 8001 Sheriff Road, Hyattsville, Md. 20785. Your driver will be instructed to drop you off at the Uber Pickup & Drop-Off Zone adjacent to FedExField.

For pickups, exit the stadium and follow the Uber way-finding signs to Redskins Road, which will feature signage directing you to the Uber Pick-Up & Drop-Off Zone located at Prince George’s County Sports Complex, 8001 Sheriff Road, Hyattsville, Md. 20785. You will be able to request a ride when you’re in the Uber Pick-Up & Drop-Off Zone. Fans will only be able to request a pickup at the Uber Pick-Up & Drop-Off Zone.

Tailgating

Tailgating provides you with a break from your strict diet of locally grown and sustainable ... whatever. Enjoy your brats and beer. Tailgating is permitted in all parking lots at FedExField. Use of more than one parking spot for tailgating is permitted only in designated areas.

Fans who wish to tailgate in more than one parking space will be directed to the back of parking lots, where they will be allowed to occupy additional spaces until required for additional vehicles. Fans who wish to tailgate within a single parking spot will be directed to the front of parking lots. Purple, Orange and Green parking lots open four hours before kickoff. The RedZone Lot opens five hours before kickoff. Portable toilets are available throughout the parking lots.

Some other guidelines, courtesy of FedEx Field management:

  • Use of an empty parking space for tailgating is permitted only in designated areas and until such time as the space is needed to park other vehicles.
  • Use of an empty parking space for tailgating is not permitted in the Platinum Lots.
  • When parking, park your car in one space only and between the white lines.
  • Parking permits are to be used for cars only, not for additional tailgating space or storage.
  • Be considerate of other guests’ vehicles.
  • For the safety of all guests and for emergency vehicle access, keep all aisles clear.

Shuttles

There are numerous shuttle services available including Ballpark Bus, which runs from Ashburn and Reston Town Center to Nationals Park and FedEx Field. The first shuttle departs from Ashburn at 9:30 a.m. and arrives at Reston Town Center at 9:50 a.m. The shuttles park in the bus/RV parking lot and leave FedEx Field 45 minutes following the end of the game. Public Transportation

There are two Metrorail stations within a mile of FedEx Field. Morgan Boulevard Station (Silver and Blue Lines) is nine-tenths of a mile away from the stadium and features a pedestrian walkway with direct access. The Largo Town Center Station (Silver and Blue Lines) is about one mile away.
