The northern half of the Carlin Springs Road Bridge will be demolished this weekend, forcing the temporary closure of George Mason Drive in the vicinity.

There will be no traffic permitted under the bridge on George Mason Drive beginning Friday at 8 a.m. and extending until 5 a.m. Monday (July 16.)

If you are driving in the area, consider taking alternate routes, including North Glebe Road, Arlington Boulevard, and Wilson Boulevard.

A traffic shift on the bridge was scheduled to take place Monday, July 9, moving cars to the new southern half of the bridge.

The Carling Springs Road Bridge is being replaced because it has shown the “greatest deterioration” or any bridge in Arlington County. The new bridge will be 69 feet wide (4 feet wider than the existing bridge) and will feature wider sidewalks, bike lanes and better lighting.
