Howard County wants to make one of the area’s busiest intersections more friendly to bikes and pedestrians.

On June 28, the county will reconfigure the intersection of Little Patuxent and Broken Land Parkways.

The reconfiguration is designed to give priority to pedestrians and cyclists coming from the east and south, including those coming from the Downtown Columbia Trail crossing.

The improvements will involve the installation of right-turn signals and “No Turn on Red Arrow” signs for eastbound and northbound vehicles. While those red arrows are lit, pedestrian signals will display “Walk” to those looking to walk or bike across the intersection.
