Lanes of Route 110 over Route 27 will be closed for the next two month as crews work on the demolition and rebuilding of bridge piers.
The Virginia Department of Transportation said the closures would impact the northbound lane of Route 110 at the Route 27 interchange and the southbound lane of Route 110. The closures are expected to be put in place Monday and Tuesday night this week.
In addition, VDOT said the ramp from Eastbound Route 110 to Northbound Route 27 will be closed Thursday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 17 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The work is part of the Route 27 over Route 110 project, which involves repairing the 87-year-old Washington Boulevard Bridge. The bridge will be widened nine feet to 105 feet to allow for bike lanes and sidewalks. Two new end spans are also being added to lengthen the bridge to 450 feet.
The bridge project is expected to be completed this summer.
