Metro is considering closing the parking lot at the Deanwood Metro station and said it wants to pursue a mixed-use development project at the site.

Under the plan, the parking lot at Deanwood would be removed and drivers would be encouraged to use the Cheverly, Minnesota Avenue or Addison Road stations instead. Metro would keep the Kiss and Ride area and bus loop.

The lot at Deanwood, which has 194 spaces is currently underutilized, Metro said. Deanwood station is one of the least-used stations in the Metrorail system, with average weekday boardings of about 1,250.

Metro is seeking feedback on the plan via a survey through July 2. It will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposal on June 20 at the Deanwood Recreation Center, 1350 49th St. NE.
