The Montgomery County Planning Board next week will hold a public hearing to review technical updates to its broad plan of roads and streets.

The planning board is updating the 80-page document to reclassify 92 roads in the county, and to address other inconsistencies that have cropped up over time.

The new technical update calls for 20 streets to be upgraded to “primary residential” status. This means that they are more likely to serve as a major collector street in neighborhoods.

Other technical updates to the plan include:

  • Adding the I-270 HOV lanes
  • Clarifying that all urban roads should have speed limits of 25 miles per hour.
  • Designating Burtonsville, Kensington, Cabin Branch, Langley Crossroads, and Chevy Chase Lake as “urban areas” for planning purposes.

You can read the full technical update to the master plan here. To comment at the public meeting, you must first sign up online.
