Parking Restricted on Rhode Island Avenue During Red Line Distruptions

The District Department of Transportation is restricting parking along Rhode Island Avenue through Labor Day, in order to ease traffic related to the closure of stations on Metro’s Red Line.

DDOT said it will not allow parking on Rhode Island Ave. NE from North Capitol Street to 12th Street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. This will allow the District to establish a temporary bus lane in the corridor.

Meanwhile, it also said it will extend rush hour parking restrictions on North Capitol Street from Massachusetts Avenue to Michigan Avenue. Restrictions will be enforced from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Note: See below Tweet for one observation of the level of enforcement so far.)

The Brookland-CUA and Rhode Island Avenue Metro stations will be closed through September 3 as part of a major capital improvement plan.
