Police Arrest Alleged Gunman in Columbia Heights Metro Station Shooting

** Updated 1:57 p.m. Friday: Suspect was arrested Thursday in Montgomery County, Md., per MPD statement. **

Police have arrested a man who allegedly fired a handgun down the escalator of the Columbia Heights Metrorail Station in a brazen attack last week.

Cesar Morales, 22, was arrested in Montgomery County, Md., on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police Department said Friday in a press release. Charges are pending his extradition to the District of Columbia.

The attack occurred on Aug. 25 at 12:15 p.m., when Morales allegedly fired several gunshots down an escalator at an unidentified person, MPD said. Both Morales and his target fled the scene.
