A fire on Metro tracks near Pentagon City forced the temporary stoppage of service on the Yellow and Blue Lines Monday morning.

Passengers posted images on social media of the fire at about 9 a.m. Monday. Metro reported the suspension of service between National Airport and Pentagon due to “unschedule trackwork.”

The suspension of service led to crowded conditions at nearby stations, despite lighter-than-usual ridership due to the government shutdown. Crystal City and Pentagon City stations were temporarily closed.

Metro resumed regular service at about 10:15 a.m. Monday but there were lingering delays.
