Answer: We were recently accused of making this contest too easy, so we decided to go back in time to ... 1900. The photo shows the subway leading from the Russell Senate Office Building to the U.S. Capitol. The subway still exists today, but you don’t need a top hat to ride it. Since Metrorail didn’t exist then (duh), the closest Metro station to that location is Union Station, which is 0.3 mile to the north (for those keeping score at home, Capitol South is 0.6 mile to the south).
