The Virginia Department of Transportation is looking for ideas.
VDOT next week will host its latest SmarterRoads Hackathon and Idea Jam, bringing together a wide range of people to brainstorm solutions to the region’s transportation woes.
The two-day event on July 17 and 18 will allow developers, planners, and others to compete for cash prizes. Competitors will have access to VDOT’s SmarterRoads portal, which uses Big Data to offer insights into traffic incidents, congestion, and other transportation issues. VDOT is hosting the event at the Crystal City offices of 1776, which is a co-sponsor.
Competing teams will be provided time to research and develop presentations, to be submitted to judges at the end of Day 2. Judges will rate presentations based on five categories, including technical achievement, originality, impact, approach, and polish and presentation.
