Express lanes on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway in Virginia will be closed overnight this weekend, as the Virginia Department of Transportation installs beams for the Jones Branch Connector Bridge.

The closures will start Friday night at 11 p.m. and will impact the area from the northern entrance to the Beltway at the Dulles Toll Road to the Jones Branch Interchange.

The lanes will be back open by 4 a.m. Monday.

There will be a detour allowing drivers to get on the southbound 495 Express Lanes via Westpark Drive. Traffic will be sent to the Outer Loop general purpose lanes, then southbound Route 123 (Exit 46A), Tysons Boulevard, Galleria Drive and Westpark Drive, and then back to the southbound Express Lanes.

The ramp from eastbound Dulles Toll Road to the southbound Outer Loop Express Lanes will also be closed; drivers can follow the same detour as above.

The bridge work is part of a broader Jones Branch Connector project, which is expected to be at least partially open later this year. The project could lead to lane closures and other disruptions on a regular basis. For example, there will be single lane closures on the Express Lanes from March 12-19.
