VDOT Plans 6 Straight Weekends of I-395 Lane Closures

General purpose lanes of I-395 in Virginia will be closed for six consecutive weekends, beginning on July 20, as crews work to fix bridges between the Springfield Interchange and District line.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said there will be double lane closures Friday night through Monday morning. Closures will alternate between the north and southbound direction, depending on where bridge work is happening.

Work is expected to continue for six consecutive weekends, depending on the weather.

VDOT said that at least two general purpose lanes on I-395 will stay open during peak daytime hours.

To ease traffic congestion during overnight hours, VDOT will open HOV lanes from Edsall Road to the D.C. line in the same direction as bridge work. Those motorists who are traveling through the area (as opposed to exiting to local roads) will be encouraged to use the HOV lanes.
