The Virginia Department of Transportation next week will present its latest plans for upgrades to a key intersection in Leesburg.
The public on March 7 can weigh in on plans for a new interchange at Route 7 and Battlefield Parkway.
The $58 million project calls for a replacement of the traffic signal, and VDOT may also remove or modify signals at Route 7 and Cardinal Park Drive. Plans also call for sidewalks and a shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.
Last year, the Leesburg Town Council endorsed the construction of a single point intersection at Route 7 and Battlefield Parkway, rather than a “Diverging Diamond” or “Single Loop” hybrid design.
VDOT said it expects to have final design approval this spring and will award a design-build contract next year. Construction is expected to start in the winter of 2020.
Public meeting details:
When: March 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
