Weekend Transit Disruptions for Sept. 8-10, 2017

This is going to be a busy weekend. Sportswise, it’s Washington vs. Philadelphia, a moribund sports town featuring fans infamous for throwing Duracell batteries at opposing players and booing Santa Claus just before Christmas. The Nationals host the Phillies for a weekend series at Nationals Park, while the Redskins host the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field on Saturday.

Both Saturday and Sunday will also feature several neighborhood festivals, including the Rosslyn Jazz Festival, Adams Morgan Day and Celebrate Petworth. If you’re driving or trying to Metro through the city, don’t be surprised that it’s a bit more congested than usual due to the large volume of pedestrian traffic and road closures. Use a bike or Metro in and start day-drinking early.

Finally, The Nation’s Triathlon will take place on Sunday morning - a portion of Whitehurst Freeway will be closed starting at 5 a.m. There will be rolling road closures throughout the rest of the morning as the race concludes with the foot race.

Weather

  • Friday: 75/56, mostly sunny, 0% precip, 54% humidity
  • Saturday: 71/54, mostly sunny, 0% precip, 59% humidity
  • Sunday: 73/56, sunny, 0% precip, 61% humidity

Free shuttle buses will operate between Friendship Heights, Bethesda, Medical Center, Grosvenor-Strathmore, White Flint and Twinbrook. Allow 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
