Metro on Thursday announced that it has dramatically increased the number of stations with free public wi-fi, from six to 30.

Metro began rolling out free wifi in April at Metro Center, Gallery Place, L’Enfant Plaza, Judiciary Square, Union Station and Archives.

As of Thursday, that list also includes:

  • Dupont Circle
  • Cleveland Park
  • Van Ness-UDC
  • Tenleytown-AU
  • Friendship Heights
  • Bethesda
  • Medical Center
  • Forest Glen
  • Wheaton
  • Glenmont
  • McPherson Square
  • Farragut West
  • Foggy Bottom-GWU
  • Rosslyn
  • Crystal City
  • Smithsonian
  • Mt Vernon Square
  • Columbia Heights
  • Waterfront
  • Navy Yard-Ballpark
  • Anacostia
  • Court House
  • Clarendon

Metro has set a goal of enabling wifi at all underground stations by the middle of 2018. It also is working to provide full cell phone service in all tunnels. Currently, cell service works in tunnels between Glenmont to Silver Spring on the Red Line, and on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines from Metro Center to Stadium-Armory.
