The Nationals are back in town after an extended road trip. Here’s what you need to know to get to Nats Park.

Bus and Metrorail

There are several options for bus riders looking to get to the game. For folks in the District, the D.C. Circulator runs a route from Union Station to the Navy Yard - stopping at the M Street and New Jersey Avenue SE entrance to the Navy Yard Metrorail station.

Metrobus also operates several routes near the park. The A9 Limited picks up at McPherson Square and runs every 15 minutes, but only during rush hour. Other routes that drop off and pick up near the park include V1 (rush hour only), V4, 74 and P6.

Meanwhile, the ballpark is about a five-minute walk from the Navy Yard Metro Station (Green Line) and just under a mile away from the Capitol South Metro Station (Silver, Blue and Orange Lines). If you’re on the Silver, Blue or Orange Lines, just get off at Capitol South and enjoy the leisurely stroll. The transfer isn’t worth it.

Driving

Roads and highways - I-395, I-695, I-295 and Southeast/Southwest Highway - will be as congested as Dick Cheney’s cold, dark heart, and there’s nothing we can do about it. Construction on the nearby Third Street Tunnel won’t help, either. Leave home (work?) early, arrive at the ballpark early and enjoy a cold frosty while watching the mayhem on the roads from afar.

Parking

The District is implementing a special metered street parking rate for Opening Day - $2 for the first hour and $8 for each subsequent hour. (Ouch.) Also be aware that some areas of surrounding streets are reserved for residents only.

The Nationals website trumpets a number of different options for parking. If you’re driving, we suggest buying a guaranteed garage parking spot online to get as close, as you can as quickly as you can. Don’t waste time haggling over a few bucks with shady Uncle Rico, who runs a lot in his backyard. Prepaid parking spots run from $20 to $47. Here are the vehicle entrances for the following parking garages:

  • Garage B: N Street SE
  • Garage C: First Street SE
  • Lot H: Half Street SE
  • Lot K: L Street SE
  • Lot L: L Street SE
  • Lot T: 3rd Street SE
  • Lot U: 3rd Street SE
  • Lot W: 7th Street SE

Bicycling

The healthiest commuting alternative! You dirty hippies and semi-inebriated bros can find more than 250 bike racks around the ballpark. A free bike valet is located in Garage C at the corner of N Street and First Street SE. The bike valet opens and starts accepting bikes starting at 11:05 a.m. closes an hour after the final out. Capital Bikeshare also has stations in these locations:

  • 1st and N Streets, SE
  • 1st and K Streets, SE
  • M Street and New Jersey Avenue, SE
  • 3rd and Tingey Streets, SE

Good luck, commuters. Go Nats!
